Psychology Leadership Programme


Day One:

Picture

Thinking Out of the Box


Morning:

Skills session: Generating ideas and thinking out of the box
You will develop skills to allow yourself to be creative with your ideas. Leadership starts with ideas and being able to think in ways different to the people around you, will give you the edge you need to succeed.
Project work: Developing a project idea
Once you have developed ideation skills you will put them into practice designing your own project, or a project which you can work on collaboratively with other members of the group.

Afternoon:

Skills session: Research project design and planning
Getting the structure of your project correct is crucial as it will dictate your future success. In this session you will concentrate on developing the skills necessary to generate a long term project that adds value to the area you are researching.
Project work: Designing a long term project 
University level content: Psychology  - Developmental Psychology
One of our mentors will introduce university level content to give you an understanding of the subject and challenge you beyond your normal school level studies.

Day Two:

Running with Your Ideas


Morning:

Skills session: Data collection and ethics
Data is the backbone of any research project and knowing how to collect it in an accurate and meaningful way is perhaps the most important skill of any researcher. In this session you will develop these skills in a practical model.
Project work: What data do we need?
Having developed the skills to collect data, you will now consider for your own project what data you need and get creative in your methods to collect it.

Afternoon:

Project work: Collecting data
After structuring your data needs you will make an initial start at the data collection process. This can be tested with your team or group, and then extended to a wider set. You will take full advantage of social media at this stage, to widen and build your data set. 
University level content: Psychology - Developmental Psychology

Evening:

Leadership and team building skills based on sports psychology
In a more relaxed atmosphere, you will develop team building, leadership and critical thinking skills in dynamic and challenging activities.

Day Three:

Structuring Your Ideas


Morning:

Skills session: Data processing 
By day three you will have started to collect some data and will be looking to start your initial analysis. In this session we will develop these analytical skills.
Project work: Data collection and analysis – part 1 
Most of the day will be spend on your own project, collecting and analysing data.

Afternoon:

Project work: Data collection and analysis – part 2
University level content: Psychology - Developmental Psychology

Evening:

College counselling: Where next with Psychology?
In this evening session you will discuss with your mentors which universities or courses are best suited for a career path connected to psychology. What are universities and companies looking for in their future leaders. You should be prepared to ask as many questions as possible in this session as you will be surrounded by people from the top schools, who have achieved leadership position in this subject area.

Day Four:

Challenging the Data


Morning:

Skills session: Challenging your own and others data, and collaboration
Good scientists and business people challenge themselves at every opportunity. Are my assumptions correct, is my analysis of the data accurate, could I be doing this better. You will develop these skills by challenging each others projects, data and data analysis.
Project work: Drawing initial conclusions
Using your initial data sets and analysis you will start to draw conclusions which will develop into extension questions and projects.

Afternoon:

Project work: Challenging each other
Working in small groups you will look at each others data and developing conclusions and challenge each other on the findings.
University level content: Media literacy and communication

Evening:

Confidence building activities:
Leaders need to be confident. As normal with our evening sessions, we will address this need in a fun and light-hearted manner.

Building Your Brand


Morning:

Skills session: Building your Brand
Leaders need to work hard to make people aware of them. In this session you will learn some of the methods which you can use in the 21st century to make people aware of you and the work you are doing. Building your own brand.
Project work: Pulling the project together - part 1

Afternoon:

Project work: Pulling the project together - part 2
University level content: Media literacy and communication

Evening:

Project work: Presenting your work
In this evening session you will brainstorm and test methods to present your work. You will be challenged to be as creative as possible so as to differentiate yourself and develop your own brand.

Day Six:

Presentation Day


Morning:

Project work: Finalizing your presentation
Finalizing your presentation and ensuring that you have included plans for future work and extending your projects.

Afternoon:

Presentations:
As a conclusion to your Leadership Programme you and your team will present your project and results in the most innovative way you can. The best presentations will be uploaded to the IWA website.
Awards:
All students will receive a certificate of participation with awards for the most outstanding contributions.
